What is farewell Tawaf in Islam?
Do any know “What is farewell Tawaf in Islam”? After completing the Hajj, the pilgrim must perform it, also known as “The Farewell Tawaf,” shortly before leaving the Kaaba in Makkah, Saudi Arabia. Tawaf-al-Widaa is the last act of the Hajj that must be performed.
It can be a bit complicated for those who are going on Hajj for the first time. So, if his guide is with all the holy pilgrimage then it is not as complicated as we think. The guide is actually a scholar who knows what is right and wrong and what prayers are required to be recited on Hajj.
It is the responsibility of the travel agency that has booked the Hajj packages to provide a guide to the pilgrims.
What is Tawaf?
One of the important rites of Umrah is Tawaf, which is performed by circling the Kaaba in a counter-clockwise direction. It consists of seven cycles, each beginning and ending at the Black Stone.
The obligation of farewell Tawaf?
Every pilgrim has to perform Tawaf-al-Widaa who travels to Makkah intending to do Hajj. Only those women who are in menstruation are free from this final rite of Hajj. They are not required to perform farewell tawaf, and they don’t pay any amend or redeem anything to do so.
There is a justification for not performing farewell Tawaf to Makkah’s citizens. Only those pilgrims who have travelled from outside of Makkah to undertake the Hajj have to complete this ritual. Anyone who skips this portion of the Hajj must atone for it by making a sacrifice.
Tawaf-al-Widaa is not obligatory for Umrah pilgrims
The farewell Tawaf is optional for those performing Umrah, although it is Sunnah for them to circumambulate the Kaaba when they want to leave. There is no proof that it is obligatory, and because, as far as we can tell from His (PBUH) Sunnah, the Prophet (PBUH) did not do the farewell tawaf when He (PBUH) left Makkah after performing Umrah.

How to perform farewell Tawaf?
A discussion about performing farewell Tawaf is below:
- Before entering Masjid Al-Haram, observe ablution. This means doing Wuddu and purging oneself of all impurities, big and small.
- Both men and women must make sure their bodies are completely covered by the Ihram.
- At the Miqat, do niyat and enter the state of Ihram.
- Start performing the Tawaf from the Black Stone (Hajr-al-Aswad) counterclockwise as soon as you enter Masjid Al-Haram. Make the niyat (intention) to do Tawaf while standing with your back facing Hajr Al-Aswad and your face toward the Holy Kaaba. Keep keeping mind that the Black Stone is where the Tawaf must start and conclude.
- Once “Bismillahi Wallahu Akbar” has been recited, perform Istilam or make a gesture towards Hajr-al-Aswad, and then begin the Tawaf in an anti-clockwise motion.
- Be careful not to enter the Hateem while performing Tawaf because it is a part of the Kaaba.
- You have finished one Tawaf when you return to Hajr Al-Aswad. So after every Tawaf, remember to perform Istilam while facing the Black Stone.
- Move to the Station of Ibrahim (Maqam-e-Ibrahim) to perform Salah-al-Tawaf after the Tawaf is complete.
Summary
For pilgrims who have travelled from outside the Miqat boundaries to do Hajj, performing Farewell Tawaf or Tawaf-al-Widaa is essential. On the other hand, there is no requirement to say the Farewell Tawaf for people who reside within the boundaries of the Miqat. After Tawaf-al-Widaa and Hajj are finished, remember to place your left foot forward and say Durood al-Shareef before leaving Masjid Al-Haram.
Before, implementing new rules on Hajj Pilgrims, nobody travelled to other cities except Medina and Mecca. But now Hajj visa holders can access the other cities of Saudi Arabia. Before going on a pilgrimage, it is important to confirm whether your Hajj Visa includes in the Hajj Package or not.
