However, this first female foray into the universe of timekeeping complexity forced Chanel, of course, to be as poetic as it is mysterious, as pure in appearance as complex and exceptional in its construction. It is therefore natural that the brand focused its attention on the tourbillon, but not a traditional tourbillon, but a flying tourbillon.
The particularities of a flying tourbillon
Traditionally, the tourbillon carriage – on which the watch’s regulating organ, i.e. the escapement, balance and balance spring, are suspended – oscillates between the base of the movement, the mainplate, and the upper bridge that together They support the car on its axis. In a flying tourbillon, there is no top bridge and the cage appears to be spinning weightlessly. But this freedom is not without its technical limitations, for even without the top bridge, the flying tourbillon still has to be able to withstand shocks at least as well as a traditional tourbillon.
Therefore, it is necessary for watchmakers to pay even more attention to the precision of the minute construction and the set of three dimensions of the car. As the brand always does with its haute horlogerie pieces, Chanel has worked closely with the Swiss builders, engineers and master watchmakers of Renaud & Papi (APRP), and the advanced research and development arm of Audemars Piguet, to develop this flying tourbillon.
A moving flower cart
Chanel fake watches has chosen to insert this flying tourbillon at the heart of the Première watch, and this union has been carried out with the greatest grace and understated refinement. The Première’s flying tourbillon performs its functions almost in secret, its carriage has been transformed into a camellia, Mademoiselle Chanel’s favorite flower. A stylized camellia motif rotates as if by magic above a very pure ceramic dial. While the eye may catch a glimpse of the intricacy of the elements that make up the flying tourbillon amidst the movements of the camellia, it is especially drawn to the floral spectacle.
The flying tourbillon carriage was designed to be as large as it is outside, in order to highlight the animation. The edges of the camellia petals are made of metal and the heart of the petals is filled with a latticework that gives the flower its delicate texture. In order to keep the trolley as light as possible, this net has been designed using the Mimotec process. (This process is used to make micro-components that offer an exceptional degree of precision,
as well as a superlative surface finish.) The external elements that make up the camellia are screwed at three points directly into the carriage of the flying tourbillon.
In the stepped center of the flower is a cabochon delicately set with diamonds. The camellia makes one revolution per minute, with the petals indicating the passing of the seconds. The hour and minute hands have been placed off-center higher on the dial. The baton-shaped hands, characteristic of the Première watch, have been slightly raised, since they must pass over the flying flower. Moving around a black ceramic dial, the hands have also been decorated with diamonds, which is a feat in itself,
given their size and the meticulous way in which they are set. The impression of depth is enhanced by the shadow formed by the CHANEL fake watches signature.
A place for light
While preserving perfectly balanced proportions,
the Première Tourbillon Volant’s case has taken on new dimensions:
28.5mm by 37mm, compared to 19mm by 26mm for the traditional Première. Its stylized geometry is at two levels. A bezel is mounted on the top of the half case and runs around the entire perimeter.
The corners have been truncated, giving the piece additional dynamism,
providing the play of light that emphasizes the beauty and value of the revolving floral sculpture. The two levels of the box also offer the possibility of creating many variations for stone setting. The base of the case can be set with vertical baguette diamonds,
for example rectangular along the entire perimeter, except for the truncated corners,
which are highlighted with square baguette diamonds, and the side of the case can be set with round diamonds.
Alternatively, the bezel can be set with baguette diamonds or diamonds combined with colored gemstones,
thus mixing their color fire and brilliance, creating many different harmonic arrangements. The possible variations and combinations are endless. On the case side, the large crown is also set with baguette or round diamonds. Its size allows for easy loading of the mechanical hand-wound movement (TDC 10) that powers the Première Tourbillon Volant.
With a 40-hour power reserve, this movement is mounted on a rectangular-bottom base plate,
decorated with a blackened Côtes de Genève pattern. The other finishing touches are exceptional:
the various components are beveled and finished with circular graining by hand in the highest tradition. Lastly, to maximize comfort for the wearer,
the Première Tourbillon Volant is mounted on either an alligator strap
or a satin strap that seamlessly integrates with the case.
The integration of the case and bracelet offers you remarkable flexibility. Available in three different lengths, the bracelet comes with a fold-over clasp whose cover is set with baguette-cut diamonds. The watchmaking complexity of the Première Tourbillon Volant,
